| 8 boxes with short a | Keeping the model sound constant (a), the child learns all the consonant sounds, except k, y, z and q |
| 4 boxes with short e | The child knows most of the consonant sounds by now and is introduced to e; is introduced. |

In the first 24 boxes, the medial sound is kept constant so that the child can focus on the initial and final sounds. With the last 3 boxes, the child must now focus on the initial, medial, and final sounds.
